Thoughts about Forgetting.
»The topic of my thesis? – Forgotten.« This is just one of many plays on words that emerged while working on my thesis. And it is characteristic of one of the reasons why I chose this topic: I was interested in the complexity and multi-layered nature of this abstract, simple everyday term that can be read in German as a verb as well as a noun or adjective. And so began the exploration through the many areas of this subject – and the more I delved into it, the more aspects and associations emerged.
Forgetting is a never-ending topic, which made it impossible to create an all-encompassing thesis. I could have limited myself to just one area, for example wanting to forget. Instead, I decided to cover numerous areas and limited myself only to the constraint of time – to meet the university's deadline. Therefore, this catalog must be considered incomplete. The content I selected does not necessarily reflect its importance compared to other aspects that I have not included. However, I deliberately left out some areas, as does not the work on a topic that should be forgotten have the opposite effect, namely remembering?
With this work, I illustrated how complex a single, common word can be.
