Thoughts about »Forgetting«
My subject? Forgotten. That is just one of several word plays that came up while working on my thesis. And it is indicative of one of the reasons why I chose this theme as my topic. Not because of the humor, but rather the complexity of the subject. And thus began the journey through the many areas of this topic – and the further I delved into it, the more aspects and associations came to light.
As already implied, this is an endless subject, which complicates preparing an all-encompassing thesis. I could have restricted myself to just one area, for example Wanting to Forget. But, then I decided to handle many aspects and only constrained myself by setting a time limit – in order to meet the completion deadline. Therefore this book must be seen as incomplete. And the selected contents do not necessarily reflect their importance compared to other aspects which were not included. Yet some areas were intentionally left out – after all, does not handling and presenting a subject, that is supposed to be forgotten, have the opposite effect, namely to be remembered?
With this work I want to lead a viewer into a world that on the one hand shows how complex a single word can be and at the same time exemplifies an abstract concept and also gives the observer something to remember and the feeling of remembering.
